Visit Faroe Islands…now!

The Faroese Tourist Board started a big rebranding campaign of The Faroe Islands in 2013. To start off the campaign they needed a short 2 min. movie, which was to be shown to the Faroese public, and shared on social media.

We were hired to shoot this movie. They wanted to show the Faroes in a poetic and sensual way. Over one week we shot about 8 hours of footage, which was then editied into this 2 min. piece. Some of the shots were planned, and some of them were shot spontaniously. There was a lot of footage and a lot of decisions to be made. We needed to stay cool and kill a lot of darlings in this one. So Thomas took the big Mac Pro under his arm and travelled to Copenhagen to Liquidminds HQ, and finished the editing there.

During the shooting period, we recieved our secod Red camera, the Red Epic. This camera has a much higher frame rate which was perfect for our helicopter shots as it’s much easier to stabilise a higher frame rate picture in post.

Apartments for sale

Bank Nordik wanted to sell apartments. There had been a few issues during the construction of these apartments, and people had become a bit sceptical about them. Bank Nordik had addressed the issues and fixed all the problems. The apartments were now in top-notch condition and ready to be sold, and this needed to be said.

We chose an apartment and moved in some flowers and furniture and added directional lights. We just wanted to show how a decorated apartment would look and feel like. Filmed on Red Scarlet on a camera slider to give motion to the shots.

Visitors beware!

The Faroe Islands are a mountainous place with small curvy roads and tunnels. In the Summer a lot of tourists come here on the ferry, and bring their cars along. And it is an excellent place to travel by car, as the roads stretch out to every corner of the country. But there are dangers on the road and some road rules, which foreigners should be extra aware of.

The Faroese Main Road Authority came to us with this assignment. They wanted a looped movie to be played back nonstop on the 2 day ferry trip to the Faroes. A movie, which made new visitors aware of the dangers on the Faroes roads. It was to be shown on different monitors onboard the ferry, but without sound.

We had worked with the talented illustrator, Janus á Húsagarði, before, and he was hired for this assignment as well. We made a storyboard,  Janus drew some black and white illustrations – we cut them out, animated them and added colours.

Paint – all over

Add some colour to your boring life. We made this one for a company in the Faroes selling paint. We went over the top with this one, and it got a lot of press: negative and positive (we like both!).

It is good paint that these guys are selling. It’s “beautiful” and “strong”. So of course we needed to have something beautiful and something strong, hence the surfer chick and the bodybuilder. It’s obvious!

The character in the beginning is our favorite actor, Hjálmar Dam. To make him extra boring and “square” we molded his head “squarish” post editing. Don’t think anyone recognises him.

This was a fun one to make, and Hjálmar has a hard time maintaining his serious glare.

Basic needs

Ad for the University of the Faroe Islands. It focuses on the 4 basic needs of a human being: Food, sleep and sex. The fourth need “the will to advance”, “the will to become better”, “the will to learn”. The ad is built on a monologue talking about these 4 drives. We wanted the ad to appear staccato-like. We chose a black and white color palette to accentuate the direct and to-the-point nature of the story. There are no fades, no flowing animations in this ad. The voice over also has this staccato feel. It makes for a very clean and fast ad, without any added extras.

EFFO – A new beginning

A TV-spot made for a Faroese energy company, Effo Energy. They broke loose from the big Norwegian Statoil franchise to start  their own. New name, new logo, new branding – a new beginning. The theme for the ad was “True Life”. Life as it is with all its ups and downs.

The  ad was shot on a Canon 5D with a one/two-man crew. Shot using a low-aperture lens creating unfocused background back in 2009, right before the HDSLR-revolution…hand-held of course :)…..and with lens flare! (Like everyone else was doing)

Today, 2 years later, the spot kinda looks like a short version of the Cannes winning feature “Tree of Life”, starring Brad Pitt.  (bragging)

Beat up that guy!

This one has been shown wayyy too little. I love it myself, and maybe it will come to its right on this blog. Maybe someone else will appreciate it. It’s about a moving company, and two guys fighting. Or rather one guy getting beat up by another guy. He gets packed into a cardboard box, and off he goes! With Safari Transport, of course.
